JOB TITLE: Executive Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana

JOB SUMMARY: The Executive Director leads the Big Brothers Big Sisters agency to ensure that the mission, strategy, values and goals of the organization are achieved. The Executive Director works directly with the Board of Directors and its committees to formulate and implement policies, procedures and programs.


The Executive Director provides leadership, coaching and directs the work of all employees and volunteers.


Business Planning & Execution – Develop and drive the business plan of the organization within the context of the nationwide strategic direction; drive a collaborative process with the Board and Staff. Use performance metrics and quality indicators to guide operational decision making.

Board Development – Cultivate a strong Board of Directors willing to lead and contribute to the fund development success of the organization. Work to assure independent governance oversight and performance accountability of the Board and the Executive Director.

Talent Management – Attract, retain, develop and leverage staff talent. Create an environment where staff is engaged and performing at high levels. Institute and utilize an effective performance management system for all employees that includes annual objective setting and evaluation.

Financial Management – Develop plans that maximize the financial strength of the agency without adversely affecting other criteria of success (i.e. quality of service/programming). Communicate the key performance levers and manage to these measures.

Fund Development – Proactively ensure that the organization develops strong long-term relationships with individual, foundations and corporate donors/funders. Build and maintain key relationships to ensure fund development strategy is achieved.

Program Impact – Ensure that comprehensive marketing strategies are developed to attract, engage and mobilize significant numbers of volunteer mentors. Ensure programmatic excellence and maximum program impact is achieved by establishing operational benchmarks, setting timelines and making child safety the number one priority.

Ambassador & Spokesperson – Represent Big Brothers Big Sisters at external partnership events and with the media. Positively influence partners, the media and public policies to generate volunteers, donors and other resources.

  • Actively networks with potential strategic partners and individuals, and coaches his/her team to form partnerships and collaborations
  • Models and requires collaboration with others. Builds commitment vs. compliance
  • Coaches managers on building effective relationships with others and passes on insights on navigating challenges

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business and/or Social Services preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of proven outcomes in results-building leadership
  • Proven expertise managing multiple staff members
