2026 Bigs & Littles of the Year

Big Sister Jaleesa & Little Jaime

–BBBS of Central Indiana

Jaime was matched with Big Sister Jaleesa after the traumatic loss of her father, and over seven years their relationship has grown into a genuine sisterhood built on consistency, trust and shared growth. Jaleesa has supported Jaime through grief, school and new experiences, helping her build the confidence to pursue ambitious goals—including attending Indiana University to study astronomy and accounting with dreams of becoming anastronaut. For Jaleesa, who also experienced significant loss and benefited from supportive adults growing up, mentoring Jaime has been transformative for her as well. Their story demonstrates how mentorship can become a lasting, two-way relationship that changes both the Big and the Little.

Big Brother Matt & Little Sterling

–Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area

Matt and Sterling were matched when Sterling was eight, and shortly afterward, Sterling was diagnosed with leukemia; Matt became a steady presence throughout his hospital stays, treatment and recovery. Their nearly decade-long friendship grew through everything from playing video games in the hospital to learning baseball and navigating life together. Years later, their roles reversed when Matt underwent brain surgery and Sterling was there to support him, demonstrating how their mentorship evolved into a deeply reciprocal relationship. Sterling credits Matt’s consistency with helping him build confidence and social skills, while Matt says mentorship ultimately comes down to simply showing up.
